 Tenaia Shavonne Tucker (age 10)

My name is Tenaia Tucker.  Out of anything in the world I would like to sew a portrait of my grandmother Gladys Ivonia Tucker.  My grandmother Gladys Tucker was born May 16, 1937 in the state of Bolivar Country, Mississippi.  She was born by her parents Edna Watson and James Watson.  After my grandmother was baptized at Liberty Baptist church in Mississippi she moved to Cleveland, Ohio at an early age.  Then years later my grandmother met my grandfather Thomas Tucker Jr.  A few years later they united five children and one of them were my dad Thomas Tucker III.  When my mom had me my grandmother was right on my mother side, supporting her.  My grandmother whom people called “Big ma”  was a professional at cooking.  When I was five years old I used to help my grandmother prepare a nice and hot holiday meal for my family and people who needed food.  Back in the day there was only black and white TV’s, then when a person invented colored TV’s my grandmother “Big ma” was the first person on the block to have a colored TV.  When everyone found out what my grandmother “Big ma” had a colored TV, everyone started to come over her house and watch TV shows that had different colors.  The reason why I would like to sew a portrait of my grandmother “Big ma” is because she is giving, generous, and sweet.  “Big ma” is giving because if she saw a poor person out on the street she would whip up them a nice and hefty meal.  My grandmother is generous because during her spare time she crocheted me a red shawl that had a red matching hat with it.  My grandmother is sweet and because if you need something she will get you it.  My grandmother died on January 9, 2005.  Everyday when I think of “Big ma” it makes me want to cry so if I sew a portrait of her it wouldn’t make me cry as much.
